Top tips for moving in day
When moving in to your new home it certainly requires all hands on deck! The major task is of course unpacking, but let’s not forget the other important bits that you shouldn’t save until later.
1. Take a look around
When your new house is empty it is the perfect time to have a walk around to check everything is in order. Some key parts to check would be:
2. Work out what is going in each room
To save a lot of time and stress, it is a good idea to have a plan before unloading your boxes especially for your heavy furniture! If you are a previous home owner, then you should have packed your rooms up in specific boxes with labels on. This will make it easy for yourself or your moving company to know where to put each box.
Take advantage of the extra hands on duty by making sure you get the heavy furniture in the correct room first time round. You don’t want to get this part wrong.
3. New home = New locks
It’s always a good idea to change the locks on your new home. You may think this is a silly idea but you never know who might have a key. As they say it is better to be safe than sorry. Book in a locksmith and get all entrances fitted with new locks for complete peace of mind.
4. Change your address
This part is certainly annoying but it is worth doing as soon a possible to minimise any chance of miscommunication. Make sure to setup a change of address with the post office before your moving day. Also remember to update everyone that has your address on record. We have made a list for you to consider:
5. Say hello to your new neighbours
This part is easier the earlier you do it, as you don’t want to leave it too long otherwise it’s just awkward. You shouldn’t have to go knocking on everyones door but just make sure you introduce yourself when you see them outside. Being friendly with your neighbours will go a long way.
If you are feeling particularly brave then you could host a welcome party for those nearby!
Enjoy making your new house a home
Moving into your new home is certainly a tiresome experience, however it is exciting as it marks a new chapter in your life. Follow the key steps listed above to make it that little bit easier. One more thing – don’t be afraid to ask for help.
